The Independent Music Retailers Association (IMRA) is a 1,000 plus member trade association of record retailers and labels, founded by Don Kulak and Mark Wilkins.. The association was formed in 1989 to provide the members with high-impact marketing bulk purchasing power, unique consumer incentives, and an active industry voice.
YOUR INDUSTRY VOICE - That Gets Results IMRA is the only association which deals specifically with the concerns of independent record retailers, and takes action on their behalf. IMRA attorneys, Cohen, Millstein, Hausfeld, and Toll, acted on the used CD issue when member stores were unfairly denied co-op advertising funds from the major distributors. In a court decision, member stores were awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost co-op advertising revenue. The association also acts on all important issues facing independent retailers, such as predatory pricing, returns policies that deny the existence of defective product, and major discounters selling front line product before street date. The IMRA responds to members' needs, big and small and has the collective resources to influence and reverse industry decisions. The IMRA answers to no one but the membership, and addresses the real needs of independent retailers, when no one else will!
More Recognition from the Record Labels Many independent retailers do not receive adequate supplies of in-store promotional CDs, point of purchase display pieces, posters and other promotional items from the major labels. As a unified group, the IMRA represents more purchasing volume than most major chains. It is therefore easier and more profitable for the labels to coordinate regional and national promotions with IMRA retailers. IMRA gives you the recognition of a large chain, while you remain independent. Receive Additional Advertising Revenue
